Tribute to Henry Surtees
It was with great sadness I learned of the tragic accident that befell Henry Surtees while competing in a Formula 2 race at Brands Hatch on Sunday.
I first met Henry in 2004 when we competed against each other in a Mini Max kart event at Buckmore Park and my earliest memory of him was his strong character which was reflected in his hand shake - very firm.
Two years later our paths crossed again, when travelling together to Valencia for the BMW Scholarships which we both won. We spent the following season competing together in the Formula BMW UK championship.
Henry was always good fun to have around; he was always laughing and joking and made the day fun and exciting.
His death has come as a major shock not only to me but to the whole racing fraternity worldwide and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
My condolences and those of my parents and family go out to his parents John and Jane, to his two sisters and the rest of his family and friends.
Adrian
