managed seventh and sixth quickest times.
In race one, a lightening start from the fourth row saw him up to third as the pack streamed into the first corner and before the completion of the first lap, he’d found a way past Williams at Clearways to take second. Lap after lap he pressured race leader Jack Timpany into making a mistake, but eventually, with no mistake made, Adrian simply out-drove him and with a superb move up the inside at Druids hairpin two laps from home, crossed the line more than half a second ahead. Race two saw him start sixth and again another fantastic start saw him into second behind Timpany until a collision between Barry Russell and Oliver Webb caused the race stoppage. At the restart, with grid positions taken from the previous lap and now held over five minutes, Adrian capitalised on his front-row slot and catapulted off the line and into an immediate lead. With Ryan Borthwick harrying second-placed Timpany, Adrian was clear to take an untroubled run to his sixth win of the season, more than any other driver this year, and a ten point lead over James Williams. "What a brilliant weekend," said Adrian at the finish. "I had to work hard for both of those wins though, having to start so low down on the grid, and it would have been more satisfying if all my main rivals had finished too. However, that is the racing and I am happy to have extended my lead in the championship". "The steering problem in qualifying was disappointing, basically when I turned the steering wheel, one wheel turned before the other but once it was changed for the races there were obviously no problems. In race one I made a brilliant start, third off the line and second into second at Clearways, I just kept pushing Jack (Timpany) to try and push him into making a mistake. I knew I’d be going for the lead at Druids as I was better on the brakes there so I ran on the outside at Paddock and then cut in behind him on the drag up to the hairpin and took the place." "Race two was a little harder, I had to brake hard going into Paddock and run wide to try and get the run on Oliver (Webb) to stop Jack pulling away. He knew where I would try and get him again so was defending really well but then the red flag stopped the race. At the restart, I was on the front row and made a better start to take the lead and then managed to pull away – there was a bit of oil on the track at Paddock after the crash, so the bravest driver into the corner was going to win!" Adrian Quaife Hobbs was outstanding at Brands Hatch yesterday, the 14 year-old from Tonbridge, Kent, putting the disappointment of a poor qualifying session when his steering rack broke, to take victory in both races and further extend his series lead with just four rounds remaining. The teenager in only his first season in car racing, had struggled in the 15 minute qualifying with his front wheels turning at different times, causing the Sackville School pupil serious handling problems although he amazingly still |
