a two point advantage with six rounds remaining.
Having missed the official test session held earlier this month, the youngster was at a disadvantage from the off, with just one test at the Lincolnshire track on Friday morning. Despite that come Friday afternoon’s official qualifying for race one he posted the sixth quickest time a 1:04.57secs lap just eight-tenths off the pole time set by Oliver Webb.
At the lights he made a great start to move into third by the first corner behind the only other race winners this season, Jack Timpany and Daniel Laddiman and ahead of pole-sitter Oliver Webb. For several laps the four ran nose-to-tail and when the lead pair tangled, Adrian needed no second invitation to make a move and jumped ahead, taking Webb and a charging Max Chilton with him.
Despite coming under pressure from Webb over the remaining laps, Quaife Hobbs held his nerve and the position to take his third consecutive race win and give him the series lead. Qualifying for race two, held on Saturday morning had seen him improve his performance and his time and he lined up fifth for Sunday morning’s second race.
At the start he was baulked off the line when Max Chilton failed to get away cleanly dropping him down to seventh and when Ryan Borthwick and Barry Russell collided Adrian was forced to take avoiding action, running wide onto the grass and damaging the front of his car. Despite struggling with a handling problem, he managed to find a way past Borthwick for fifth and enjoyed a battle with Laddiman to the flag, reducing the gap to just two and a half seconds but ultimately ran out of time.
"I’m really happy to have got that race win, especially as we missed out on the official test and I’d have been happy to have got a podium. It has got very close now and there are a lot of quick, experienced drivers out there so to have got the championship lead in my first season in T-Cars is fantastic."
Six rounds remain in the championship, at Brands Hatch, Mallory Park and Rockingham, with the first of the three double-header rounds taking place in two weeks time at Brands Hatch, Kent on August 21st.
