Adrian Quaife-Hobbs Leading at Mondello Park

"I'm extremely excited to have won my first race."said Adrian at the finish.

"I started in fourth and knew I had to get a good start because there wasn't much gap between Laddiman and Borthwick. I made a great start and thankfully so did Daniel as Ryan tried to squeeze me against the wall but I managed to get ahead of him and Max Chilton off the line and almost got Daniel too but he moved over and blocked me."

"At first I just sat behind him to see where he was quick and where he was slow. I tried the lap before the finish to get him but he shut the door and the next lap he made a mistake coming out of turn three which enabled me to get right up behind him as we entered the last corner. He tried to defend but I just went for it and then just put my foot down and went for the flag."

Qualifying for the first of two races at the County Kildare track just north of Dublin went well for the teenager, his time of 1:05.009 just 0.152 secs shy of pole and good enough for second place on the grid. At the lights a great start saw him alongside Laddiman off the line and as they entered the first corner he slotted into second ahead of Drew Lammas and James Williams. A safety car incident which was deployed to retrieve Oliver Webb bunched the pack up on lap three and at the restart he held on to second but on a rapidly drying track, his wet set-up proved to be the wrong choice and his car struggled as the race neared the mid-way point, losing second to Ryan Borthwick and then third to Max Chilton.

"We made a mistake really in the first race in going for a full wet set-up when the track started drying through the race. On the dry bits the car was all over the place, I tried to do the best I could and was happy with fourth."

Adrian's victory and fourth place has moved him into and he now enjoys a seven week break prior to the next event, on the Anglesey track in North Wales on Saturday/Sunday 25th/26th June.
